Free Resources
- Are COHFP resources free?
- Yes. Through local support and donations, COHFP provides services with no upfront cost.
- How do your counselors get paid?
- Counselors are funded through donations from homeowners we've successfully helped prevent foreclosure.
- Can I use more than one resource at a time?
- Yes — most homeowners combine in-home consultation, phone counseling, and one of our Level-UP programs.
- What are your most popular services?
- Free Phone Counseling and our In-Home Consultation, followed by the Priority Assistance Program and Home Partnership Initiative.
Privacy
- How will you protect my privacy?
- Every conversation is confidential. We never share information without your written consent. The earlier you reach out, the easier it is to keep your situation private.
Bankruptcy
- Can I use COHFP resources if I'm going through bankruptcy?
- Yes. Many homeowners successfully sell during bankruptcy to pay creditors and start fresh. Loop your bankruptcy attorney in, and we'll coordinate.
- I moved out and I'm in bankruptcy — can a Certified Professional help me?
- Yes. We can solve even complex situations involving missed payments and vacated properties. A free assessment lays out your options.
Divorce
- Do both spouses have to agree to participate?
- Yes. Initial counsel and follow-up meetings require both parties so the plan reflects everyone's interests and the law.
Inheritance & Probate
- I inherited a home with a mortgage — what should I do?
- Get a free counsel call first. We'll help you decide whether to keep it, sell it, or transfer it, and we'll loop in a Colorado probate attorney if needed.
Process & Timing
- I just received a Notice of Default — how fast should I act?
- Immediately. Our Priority Assistance Program is built for same-day response to NoDs. Foreclosure outcomes are decided in the first 30–60 days.
- How long does foreclosure take in Colorado?
- Typical Colorado Public Trustee foreclosures run 120–180 days from NoD to sale, but timelines vary by county and loan type.
- Do I have to qualify based on income?
- No. Most of our programs base eligibility on current need, not income.
